This was an inspiring account of his funeral. This man was the heart of Birkenhead the like we will never see again. His passion to create a hospital,an art institution,Birkenhead park and Hamilton square plus to keep Birkenhead safe and clean is a testimant to this great man. I think if he saw his beloved Birkenhead now in 2020 he would be crushed.JoyceBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18190221110066445416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34797157.post-16640732820116501162020-09-07T20:29:13.480-07:002020-09-07T20:29:13.480-07:00Very interesting. I was born in Albion St. B.Head attended Pilgrim St. school, then Conway St. then Laird School of Art and B.head Tech. attended St. Marys church until I was 20 then Kingdom Hall. I lived in Church St. until 1964 and was a dental patient on Hamilton Square of the dentists Mr. Kirkland and Stuttard (whom I loved) from when I was about three years old. I also worked in Camel Lairds in 1966 67 while building the Pollaris Nuclear Subs. The name Laird has followed me through all of my growing up in B.head so as I read the article about John Lairds funeral I could clearly picture the crowds and people saddened by the death of this man. So happy to read this article on John Laird.Barbara (Edwards) Staffordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04412989472464038911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34797157.post-458817927918972772019-02-24T12:15:53.528-08:002019-02-24T12:15:53.528-08:00Hi....I am researching my family history and notic...Hi....I am researching my family history and noticed the surname of Ashton in the list of grave names for St Marys Church,Birkenhead........My Great Great Grandparents were married in this church on 29th May 1869,,,,Marriage Certificate is numbered "Page no 94,,,and item no.188......
